We’re honored to be featured in this month’s Somerset Hills Lifestyle. Writer Patti Zielinski spoke with our founder, Megan McDowell, about the loss of her brother-in-law, John W. Farrell, on September 11th, and about the meals, raked leaves, carpools and hugs from neighbors and strangers that helped her family through that first year.
Those small acts of kindness became the seed for Heartworks. What started in 2003 as monthly gatherings among friends grew into a nonprofit in 2005, built on the idea that everyone has a gift to offer someone who is struggling. The feature covers how we support families in the first year of grief, illness or injury, our monthly dinners for local veterans from VFW Post 7858, the work of Junior Heartworks, and how anyone can start paying kindness forward with what they already love to do.
