A Wrap-up of the Week with Our Veterans

Hello Heartworkers!

A hundred times a day every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life depend on the labors of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measures as I have received and am still receiving. - Albert Einstein

What a powerful, grounding week!! The men wanted me to extend their sincere gratitude for everyone who came out to see them, made meals, stopped to chat while selling poppies, brought gifts and introduced their children to them!!

They presented Heartworks with a beautiful plaque (SOOO unnecessary) but so thoughtful. I will have it on display at the meeting next week.

We gave Charlie Jeroloman flowers for being chosen this year's Grand Marshall in the parade. This is a huge honor for him and he is very humbled by it and even a bit embarrassed. He wants everyone to know that what he did for our country is no better or different than what any of the other men have done. He told me this 4 times. I wondered how many politicans and CEOs would be as gracious as this man who quite Bernards High School and lied about his age to go fight for us. These men have a way of bringing truth and humility to the surface of my chaotic days and they are a constant reality check on what I choose to value in my daily experience.

Please introduce yourself to the men at the parade--when we are all gathering at Town Hall please walk down to where they are standing and say hello and that you are a part of Heartworks!

Kelly K made AWESOME labels that we are wraping around water bottles for us to give them at the ceremony. The labels include a flag and the Heartworks logo and the words: "Our Eternal thanks for giving us our freedom and the ability to live in democracy. We honor your sacrifes to make this possible, your fellow soldiers that gave their lives for us, and their families that live without them"  I love it! and perhaps will feel a little less ashamed this year sitting comfortably in the shade while these aging men stand in the sun holding a heavy American flag.

If you made a meal and have any feedback on how to make the week run more smoothly, please email Holly with any suggestions holly.fay@verizon.net.

THANK YOU for Heartworks, my life continues to shift and grow through these friendships and activities.

Have a Grateful Weekend,
Megan

What I Loved About Last Night's Meeting . . .

I loved seeing new faces with tiny red heart stickers on their nametag.
I loved seeing bags and bags and bags of food from people who have enough for those who need more.
I loved signing Mother's Day cards to honor Mom's who have graciously allowed us into their lives.
I loved that we signed a card for Sarge.
I loved the story about sending a 17-year-old girl to the prom and how beautiful she looked.
I loved forming  our new "Prom Committee" to help send any seniors that need are our help.
I loved that Kelly said a prayer for me while lighting the candles and remembered the goodness of my Eddie.
I loved that the room was full and we felt like one.
I loved that we had a new bike to talk about and give to a little boy.
I loved that I have been haunted by poor children with cleft palates and there are 2 women in the group with connections to facilitate helping these babes.
I loved that plans are being made for our week-long honoring of our Veterans and that I never have to feel guilty again for being complacent about the men and women who have given my family a good life.
I loved the quiet at the end of the meeting when we sat in silence and reached out to a woman we've never met who is in incredible pain.
I love that we get to do it all again next month.

Thank You,
Megan
