Dear Heartworkers,

If you watched American Idol tonight, I wonder if you are thinking about what I am thinking...how much time today I wasted on petty worries and concerns. To think of a child dying of Malaria every 30 seconds...to watch those clips of hungry and sick people in America and around the world, I could not go to bed tonight without saying thank you to all of you.

If this was 5 years ago I would be just sick to my stomach going to sleep, thinking "What am I doing to make a difference?"  But because of all of you, I can take some deep breathes and know that we are making a difference. We are reaching out to people who are struggling and opening ourselves to look at our own struggles as well. There is so much work to be done, so much to do that it encourages me to stop wasting time on the things I so often find myself caught up in. Tonight my children are not going to bed hungry. If someone in my family gets sick, there is medical care available to them, and I have been given the gift of knowing that we are all the same and I am not more deserving of comfort than anyone else.

All of this helps me to stop wasting time and to stay focused on life-giving choices for my family as well as people I have never met.

Thank you for helping me fall asleep tonight.

Love,
Megan

Heartworks April 2010 -- Things I Loved

Things I loved about last night's Heartworks meeting...

I loved that my house was filled with over 40 women wanting to give of themselves...

I loved that my foyer was filled with food and clothes for people who need them...

I loved that I had people over and didn't care about what my house looked like...

I loved that my size 4T daughter ran around in 2T pajamas up to her knees and I didn't care about this either!...

I loved that a little girl who's mom is sick will get daily snacks with notes taped on them from loving women...

I loved that we talked about letting go...

I loved that we laughed and new friendships were formed...

I loved that we prayed together and sat in silence...

I loved that my daughters listened in from beginning to end...

I loved how cared for I felt and how so many others felt the same...

I loved that yesterday the tree Heartworks planted in 2006 in memory of my dad was bare and this morning there were pink flowers blooming...

I loved that for a few hours we were joined together by something bigger than ourselves and experienced beauty...
